President Donald Trump called the former director of the FBI, James Comey, a "proven leaker and liar" and a "weak and untruthful slime ball" in a Friday morning tweet, less than a day after the release of excerpts from Comey's upcoming book.
"He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a awful Director of the FBI", Trump said in the tweets. His virulent attack reflected months of simmering anger against a career law enforcement bureaucrat who has emerged as one of his fiercest opponents. About two months earlier, Comey told the House Intelligence Committee that the FBI was investigating Russian inference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election as well as potential collusion.
Trump fired Comey in May, a move that led to the Justice Department special counsel's Russian Federation investigation.
In a new memoir due to hit the bookshelves Tuesday, April 17, Comey said Trump reminded him of a mafia boss who demanded absolute loyalty, saw the entire world against him and lied about everything.
As Trump and Comey prepare to go at each other in coming, public opinion seems more with the ex-FBI director.
