An autonomous auto being tested by Waymo was involved in a serious collision in the Phoenix, Arizona suburb of Chandler, when a vehicle being driven by a human swerved to avoid another vehicle, and left the human operator in the Waymo with minor injuries.
The Waymo van is said to have been operating in autonomous mode at the time of the crash.

According to officials the driver of a Honda sedan was traveling eastbound on Chandler Boulevard had to swerve to avoid striking a vehicle traveling northbound on Los Feliz Drive. For now, it seems like the autonomous vehicle was not directly responsible for the crash. He said the vehicle was traveling westbound as it approached an intersection and the Honda sedan was traveling eastbound.

However, in only one incident so far was a Waymo vehicle said to be at fault: A Waymo vehicle was traveling at 2 miles per hour in Mountain View, California, when it hit the side of a public bus. The sedan's front crumple zone is wrecked and glass is broken; the van is in better shape, though its front right tire is crushed in.
