'The Tories should follow Labour's lead and commit to increase the proportion of the mental health budget spent on children and young people and ensure that access to a counselling service is available for all children in secondary schools'. But our report out today from the Education and Health and Social Care Committees says its strategy lacks ambition.
Representatives from the City of North Battleford joined the Battlefords Canadian Mental Health Association and other supporters to proclaim Mental Health Week at a ceremony outside City Hall Monday.
The government's green paper, which was published in December 2017, announced funding for new mental health support teams in schools and the trial of a four-week waiting time for access to specialist NHS children and young people's mental health.
Stuart Rimmer, chair of the AoC's mental health policy group, who gave evidence to the committees, said: "We are grateful to the committee for highlighting the different needs and roles of schools and colleges and welcome their recommendation".
Now, MPs have warned the proposals will "put more pressure on the teaching workforce without sufficient resources".
The report said that children who'd been excluded from school, those in care, or being educated outside of mainstream schools or not in education at all were in danger of missing out on care.
The report The Government's Green Paper on Mental Health: Failing a Generation, said "the speed of delivery will leave hundreds of thousands of children with no improvements in provision for several years".

As per media reports, Comcast is asking bankers to increase the loans it has to buy Sky so it can purchase the Fox assets as well. According to CNBC , Comcast's bid would go forward if the United States Government approves AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner.
"If the government is serious about tackling injustices in our society, it must ensure proper targeted funding of support for those most in need".

Davidon also recommends that schools make mental health part of an overall wellness strategy, establish and use school-based health centers for mental health service, use positive behavioral intervention and supports, use trauma-informed principles and prioritize suicide prevention and incorporate social and emotional learning into schools.
But as well as moving faster, ministers must go further. Premier John Horgan created the new Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions - the first of its kind in Canada - so there is one person in cabinet, and one ministry in government, focused exclusively on how we can improve mental-health and addictions services and supports for all British Columbians.
"This will be supported by a new workforce - larger than the entire current workforce - and backed by £300m of additional funding that will also provide significant additional resources for all schools". This builds on what good schools are already doing, without adding to teachers' workloads.
Barbara Keeley MP, Labour's shadow minister for mental health, said, 'This report deals a hammer blow to the credibility of the Tory Government in ensuring children and young people with mental ill health get the help and support they need and deserve.
