An updated version of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, tailored for eventual crewed missions for NASA, has made its debut launch from Florida's Cape Canaveral carrying a communications satellite for Bangladesh into orbit.
After a few hiccups and delayed starts, SpaceX's new Falcon 9 variant the Block 5 finally took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The recoverable Block 5 booster is meant to be reused at least 10 times with minimal refurbishment involving flights, so allowing more typical rods at lower price tag - a secret into the SpaceX firm version.
The booster's first stage executed a flawless touchdown nine minutes after the launch and landed, just as planned, on SpaceX's "Of Course I Still Love You" drone ship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
In Friday's launch, the Falcon 9 carried Bangladesh's first communications satellite.

The midfielder was recalled to the starting line-up for the first time since March as Jose Mourinho made eight changes. Youngster Scott McTominay could play a role having impressed again against the Hammers on a night with few positives.
In addition, the upgraded Falcon 9 is more powerful than the previous versions, thanks to the nine Merlin engines in the rocket's first stage and the single "vacuum Merlin" in the second stage.
Though this was the first landing for a Block 5 first stage, it was the 25th overall for a Falcon 9 during an orbital launch. The upgraded version boasts a series of important advantages over the previous "Block 4" model and is created to maximize the rocket's reusability. This job is a crucial concern of SpaceX owner as well as Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, that has stated that such innovation can lower the expense of spaceflight and also make enthusiastic objectives such as the emigration of Mars financially practical. SpaceX will check everything and attempt the launch again tomorrow at the same time.
However, MA Hakim, president of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh, said the satellite's bandwidth would be more than 100 times costlier and that was why they would not be interested. The Falcon Heavy successfully launched in February, and the Block 5 landed well today. Musk said his engineering talent will now focus their resources on getting the BFR up and running, and eventually ferrying humans into space.
