Since a bad traffic commuting experience in December 2016 prompted Elon to envision an alternative mass transit solution, he has gone on to set up The Boring Company, a firm dedicated to the creation of a high-speed underground mass transportation network that Elon claims will "revolutionise" public transport.
In an email Thursday night, a Boring Company spokesperson said that the partnership between LA Metro and the company merely entails "close coordination to make sure our system complements and increases public accessibility to Metro". If the Boring Company wins all the regulatory go-aheads that are required, Musk's past record of hard-to-imagine achievements may be a big reason why.
Tesla-driving Angelenos may soon be able to hop out of their battery-powered vehicle, board an electric pod in a Boring Co. tunnel and get to the port where SpaceX is about to build massive rockets that it aims to fly to Mars.
SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, previously mused about the plan at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide a year ago.

Senate Votes to Halt the Repeal of Net Neutrality Rules
Republicans said they were willing to work with Democrats on enshrining the principle of net neutrality in legislation. Internet access is a "necessity" and should be "affordable to every American, regardless of your ability to pay".
During the short informational session tonight, Musk said that he hoped a wider tunnel system would complement the existing LA Metro subway system.
Musk first had the idea to build congestion-dodging tunnels under LA while stuck in traffic in December 2016.
Test runs in the loop have hit a couple of hundred miles per hour.
"The crowd was majority male, and there were very few people of color", neighborhood leader Andres Cuervo told the Los Angeles Times.
Musk welcomes all to get into a more urban experience in commuting throughout LA, which he envisions would be of 150mph trips, and only for that one dollar! If the full city council approves the exemption, it would effectively fast-track the effort, leapfrogging it ahead of comparable transportation projects.
"If you concentrate on it, if I can do that journey in about half-an-hour to an hour, I can do dozens of those a day and but a long-haul plane can exclusively make a type of flights a day", she informed the viewers.
