According to Collider - there has been no confirmation from U.S. network AMC just yet - Andrew Lincoln, the man who plays Rick Grimes, will only appear in around six episodes of the next, ninth, season. No word on how his character will be written off the show.
And with the prospect of no more Rick show runners over at The Walking Dead are doing their best to shore things up, or it would seem that way at least.
AMC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reedus - who, along with Lincoln and Melissa McBride (Carol), is one of the few actors remaining from season one - has been a fan favourite for as long as the show has been on air.
Lincoln already has a contract finished for Season 9, but he won't be appearing in the entire 16 episodes. Cohan opted to exit the high-rated AMC drama and booked the lead in ABC's Whiskey Cavalier after her efforts to renegotiate a new deal to stay on The Walking Dead went south.
Lincoln's Rick is only appearing in approximately six episodes.
Over time, Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), the pregnant widow of Glenn Rhee, has increased her standing as a survivor leader.
