The Tennessee grandmother whose life sentenced was commuted last week thanks to Kim Kardashian's advocacy had never heard of the reality-TV queen before she took up her cause, she admitted in an interview aired Thursday.
Talking to Good Morning America on June 7, Johnson said: 'When Kim told me that I was being released, I started jumping and screaming and crying, and everyone else was crying'. "And I was amazed, too".
"At first I thought she knew because the news was starting to break and we had to get her on the phone", she said.
Kim Kardashian left the home with Alice Marie Johnson behind her.
Regarding her controversial Oval Office meeting with the president, Kim said it was an inspiring experience not rooted in politics, but rather in people - one person, specifically, who she believed did not belong in prison. But she said the president immediately showed compassion for Johnson. "I did not know her name". Prior to that meeting, she'd reached out to his daughter, Ivanka Trump. Kardashian West said. "I mean, it's gone up and we felt like, 'OK, it's going to happen, ' and then just our spirits so down when we think it's not gonna go in that direction, and it's been such an emotional roller coaster just behind the scenes that it's so gratifying that we're here and we did it".
"She added: "'Thank you" is not big enough.

Does the poster remind you of one for Mission: Impossible as it does me? "We're planning on the flight being successful". Kyle Chandler , Corey Stoll , Jason Clarke and Brian d'Arcy James are also part of the cast, among others.
Johnson, 63, mirrored the sentiment, explaining, "I plan on continuing to magnify this issue".
The reality star expressed her gratitude to the president in a tweet which read, "Best news ever!"
Though she noted that her famous family is "always really supportive", Kardashian West confessed that there were people around her who discouraged her from visiting the White House.
Johnson revealed she is both grateful and protective to her advocate. "I have to live it out for her". But I didn't know that Kim was coming in.
"I love this woman", gushes Kardashian as they hug.
'I hope to continue important work by working together with organizations who have been fighting this fight for much longer than I have and deserve the recognition'. "This has fulfilled my heart and so since I feel so fulfilled, why would I stop that?" "I've walked with them".
