LeBron James and Paul George are both free agents and there are plenty of options for them to choose from. According to reports, multiple Cavs members believe LeBron is staying with the team. Oklahoma City was unable to live up to the hype that surrounded them and was knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.
Shortly after James led the Cleveland Cavaliers over his Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Irving shared some kind words about LeBron after James Harden surprisingly earned 86 of 101 first-place votes to capture the NBA MVP award.
It hasn't been talked about much, but two of the NBA's 10 best players are about to become free agents. Also a native of Southern California, George has always been thought to be eyeing a chance to join the Lakers, but his time spent with Oklahoma City may have given him second thoughts about leaving Russell Westbrook and Co.
"I'm Magic Johnson, I'm still the same dude", Johnson said.
Lakers Rumors: LA's Pitch to Sign Paul George Has Been Revealed
And Russell Westbrook has been in regular contact with George in an attempt to convince the five-time All-Star to stay. Paul George is chronicling his free agency in a three-part ESPN series, and says the process is overwhelming.
The trio of reporters also mentioned that the Lakers are receiving pressure to acquire Leonard before James thinks about committing to signing with them.
While viewed as a longshot, the Rockets are doing their due diligence and working on a way for James to join the franchise, according to a report from Sam Amick of USA Today.
Now that would be a lot to give up for a player that could still walk away in free agency next summer. It is a bold prediction, but one that makes ideal sense and certainly could come to fruition. If other teams want Leonard, then they, too, have to race the Lakers for him. It was obvious past year that "The King" could use a lockdown defender on his team. The four-time MVP played 10 more regular season games, scored 60 more points, snagged 320 more rebounds, made 117 more assists and shot nearly 10 percent more accurately than Harden.
Perhaps the only one to do so was Dominique Wilkins, who averaged 27.9 points per game for two seasons after popping his Achilles in early 1992. James can do so by opting out of his current deal. Both players have big decisions to make and perhaps playing with each other in L.A. will be the one they come to.
