Waters's exhortation came after several high-profile incidents last week in which Trump aides, including press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, were confronted at restaurants and forced to leave.
The president, however, noted Heitkamp's votes against tax cuts he signed into law in December as well as the GOP's long-sought goal to undo the health care program enacted by President Barack Obama.
Trump also hit Heitkamp on voting against the GOP tax bill that passed, accused her of voting against cracking down on so-called "sanctuary cities" and not being a dependable vote on his next U.S. Supreme Court pick now that Justice Anthony Kennedy has announced his retirement-although Heitkamp did vote to confirm Trump's first appointee, the very conservative Neil Gorsuch.

In regards to the president's rally endorsing U.S. House Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., and his run for Senate, Heitkamp said she "didn't even watch the speech".
Running in a state Mr. Trump carried in 2016 with 63 percent of the vote, Sen. But I'll tell you what: "good woman", Trump said then. In a recent ad, Heitkamp boasted that she voted "over half the time" with Trump.
Cramer says the hubbub was "more about the White House than me", but some Republicans believe it's time for Trump to take on Heitkamp.
But Heitkamp, one of the most vulnerable incumbents seeking re-election this year, is considered a moderate who is one of the least reliably partisan Democratic votes in the Senate.

Cramer said he understands the anxiety of North Dakota producers, but believes a lot of them support Trump.
The political realities of the state are not lost on Heitkamp, who relies on her bipartisan credentials and personal appeal in the state, and has not been afraid to tout her working relationship with President Trump and maintain a measured distance between herself and the brand of the national Democratic Party.
"I want to make a plea to my Democrat friends", the president said.
"They say Trump is starting a trade war", he said.
The president also mocked Democrats' talk of a "blue wave" in November that help their party take back the House, saying they "keep talking about this blue wave", but "their blue wave is really sputtering pretty badly". "But North Dakota voters know better".
