Few can admit that they were ready for the seismic upheaval that befell the state of OH after LeBron James chose to accept an offer to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers after four years of taking the team to the NBA Finals. Randle then signed with the Pels for a two-year deal starting at the $8.6 million midlevel exception.
The Lakers can offer top money plus talent and draft picks in order to surround James with competitive players enough to challenge the Warriors, who suddenly must contend with James as a Pacific division rival rather than a foe to be faced only twice a season and for the National Basketball Association title.
But money and years of security were less a concern than being able to play for a title contender. The Lakers have added several players since signing James, including Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, and Lance Stephenson. He averaged 9.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game for IN last season, his first campaign without missing a game.
You can see the live video here. With his own production company SpringHill Entertainment, James' projects include a remake of "House Party".
LeBron James signs $154 million, 4-year contract with Los Angeles Lakers
But it does say quite a bit about the magnitude of LeBron's signing that it was worth breaking into a broadcast for. The Klutch tweet had ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski beat by three minutes because, well, it was the original source.
Lonzo Ball, 22-year-old Kyle Kuzma and 23-year-Josh Hart. Those who don't pass muster can be set free next summer, when LA will have on their books only about $21 million for the four youngsters and Wagner, the waivable (and stretchable) $18 million on Luol Deng's contract and the $38 million they'll pay James. He has made clear he wants out of San Antonio and would like to head to the Lakers. The Lakers should have the cap space to sign at least one of them to a max contract, too.
That would be a hefty price to pay, particularly as the Lakers would have to try and fill out their rosters around LeBron and Leonard.
James led the Cavaliers to the Finals for the fourth successive year, but despite a superhuman personal performance - in which he averaged 34 points, eight rebounds, ten assists. a block and a steal - the Cavs were easily beaten in four games.
