The Recording Industry Association of America revealed on Monday that the album had reached the 38x platinum mark, meaning that it had been sold and/or streamed 38 million times.
Though sometimes mocked in pop culture (most famously in The Big Lebowski), the Eagles have enjoyed a resurgence of interest lately thanks to the two-part documentary series History of the Eagles. Thriller, meanwhile, sits at 33x platinum since last being counted in 2017.
Tagging another accolade onto the top album spot, RIAA added that the Eagles' "Hotel California", released in 1977, is also now rated 26x platinum - boosting it to third best-selling album of all-time.
The compilation was overtaken by "Thriller" in 2009 after Jackson's death caused a surge in sales.

RIAA's certifications include sales of physical product, as well as streams and digital sales.
In terms of worldwide sales, Thriller remains the all-time top seller with more than 66 million estimated sales, although the true figure could be much higher.
