Tropical Storm Kirk was moving at a very fast rate of speed Sunday morning, and was expected to start moving even faster. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center expect Kirk to move westward across the deep tropical Atlantic. The depression had been approaching the Lesser Antilles but thanks to hostile winds only a cyclonic wisp of clouds remained.
But it is not fair to call it the remnants of Hurricane Florence, an official with the National Hurricane Center said Thursday night. It is possible that this system could acquire tropical or sub-tropical characteristics in the coming days. The Hurricane Center forecasts slow strengthening, then weakening as the storm enters the Caribbean and undertakes a shallow curve to the west-northwest, aiming toward the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Temperatures will rebound over the next few days, but another shot of cool air is in the forecast for the end of the week in the Northern Plains and upper Midwest.

Kirk is "moving rapidly" to the west over the eastern "tropical Atlantic" Ocean, according to the NHC at 11 a.m. The favorable environmental conditions are expected along the path of this developing tropical cyclone and the system should become a hurricane during the early or middle part of next week.
