For the first time in five years, Tiger Woods has finished a PGA Tour event at the top of the leaderboard.
Woods' Tour Championship win was not just popular in the Woods household and among the masses of golf fans; it was wildly popular among his fellow players, with many of his Ryder Cup teammates waiting on the 18th green to congratulate him after his win Sunday.
Much has happened since, including four back surgeries and his arrest for driving under the influence of painkillers in May previous year which showed the world a champion at his lowest.
A year ago, he was recovering from a fourth back surgery.
These are different times but Woods, wearing his trademark red, held on to final-round lead to lift a trophy just like the old days for his first win since 2013. The tournament took place in East Lake Golf Club and marked Woods first victory after a gap of five years.
Stenson was in a similarly congratulatory mood and added that once Woods proved he could cope with the rigours of playing regular PGA Tour golf, then tournament wins were inevitable. Eighty is a big number.
"I have considered him for the last five, six years a former golfer" Fox Sport's Colin Cowherd says in the clip.
Kavanaugh testifies about sexual assault allegations in front of Senate committee
Kavanaugh claims neither happened, telling MacCallum on air that he was a virgin in high school and for " many years" after that. They're hoping for a final Senate roll call next week, seating Kavanaugh on the court for the October start of its new term.
Woods' comeback has reinvigorated speculation that he could break Jack Nicklaus' record for the most major wins of all time, with 18 - a feat Nicklaus described as "realistic." "We look forward to this momentum continuing this week at the Ryder Cup", aid Mike McCarley, President, Golf, NBC Sports Group, said in a release. "But comparing past Ryder Cups to this one, I think what's so special is Tiger has ingrained himself in our team atmosphere in being a vice-captain, so I think it's special for him now to kind of join these younger players as a teammate".
You nearly feared for the two stars as they walked down the 18th hole of the Tour Championship as the hordes chased after them, nearly breathing down their necks, threatening to trample over them even. Not bad for a 42-year-old with four back surgeries who returned to competition in December at No. 1,199 in the world.
"It's certainly up there with obviously all the major championships I've won, Players, World Golf Championships", Woods said, at once elated and reflective in his post-round press conference. "I didn't know if this would ever happen again", he said. "I can't believe I pulled this off". As the Ryder Cup gears up this week, golf fans will undoubtedly find themselves glued to the TV when Tiger is competing.
Woods was made to sweat however after a shaky three-over-par 73 on his final round. One PGA Tour event into his return, Jim Furyk selected him as a vice captain for the Ryder Cup.
With the remainder of the 30-man field struggling to make any inroads, Woods then played solid if unspectacular golf to keep a stranglehold on the lead. Woods was a captain's pick for the US squad.
"When I was hitting that bunker shot, just like every weekend hacker, just whatever you do, don't blade this thing out of bounds", he said.
