Kelly's transition from Fox News to her own 9 a.m. hour as part of the "Today" show has been anything but smooth, and Tuesday's incident doesn't help. Roker remains with NBC as an occasional co-anchor on "Nightly News" and the daily weather anchor on "Today".
The news organization made the official announcement on Friday to cancel Kelly's "Today" segment.
This week, Kelly apologized and said she was sorry for her comments about blackface. Kelly last month publicly called for NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack to appoint outside investigators to look into why the network didn't air Ronan Farrow's stories about disgraced Hollywood executive Weinstein and allowed Farrow to take the material to the New Yorker. Al Roker and Craig Melvin strongly criticized Kelly's comments during the 7 a.m. hour of "Today" on Wednesday.
Regardless of when and how she found out, fans of Hall were not pleased, particularly since she was the first black female anchor on "Today" and her replacement had previous controversies surrounding race (like the time she insisted to children watching her Fox show that Santa Claus is white and always will be).

Early Tuesday morning, Salt Lake police learned Rowland was near the historic Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church at 239 E. KSL-TV and the Salt Lake Tribune reported that authorities confirmed a female student was found dead in a vehicle on the campus.
Sources earlier in the week said that Kelly was likely to leave the company. "Because you get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween".
Kelly is the middle of a 3-year contract at NBC at $23 million per year.
Kelly apologized for the comments on the air, but the network began airing taped episodes of her normally live show on Thursday. She said it was acceptable when she was a kid when portraying a character. "She is not ever coming back".
On Wednesday night, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Kelly had not only parted ways with talent agency CAA, but also hired a Hollywood litigator.
For the record, Megyn Kelly wasn't "defending blackface" as many of her critics accused her of doing.
