Without a fresh crop of new gaming titles and only one planned for the holidays, Nintendo kept its forecast for 20 million Switch shipments unchanged for the fiscal year.
Bloomberg is reporting today that Nintendo's recently published quarterly results have quite simply missed analysts estimates due to the lack of heavy hitting games recently.
The firm said it hopes to grow sales of the Switch further by "continuing to introduce compelling new software".

Operating profit in the July-September quarter was 30.9 billion yen (about $275 million), up from 23.8 billion yen a year ago. Nintendo believes it can achieve its high target with the upcoming Pokemon and Super Smash Bros, so it is all dependant on those titles as to whether it can achieve this. In the case of the Nintendo Switch portable console, the game has been downloaded by almost half of all the brand's now existing Switch users. Nintendo didn't really have any major new releases during this period, either, with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and a Labo Vehicle Kit being the only first-party highlights. We are also seeing an increase in Joy-Con sell-through with the release of this title. The total software sales for Nintendo Switch reached 42.13 million.
Essentially, Sony is taking a page out of Nintendo's playbook, churning out games made by its own studio; those first-party titles are also more profitable. "From the beginning we decided on a target that would be challenging to reach, not easy", said Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa following the results.
