Day served as Ohio State's interim head coach for the first three games of the season after Meyer was suspended for mishandling the employment of former assistant coach Zach Smith.
It's hard to imagine him leaving Ohio State without ever coaching even one game as the full-time head coach. Ohio State had not made Spence's top seven, released the summer prior to his senior season, but Meyer made Spence a priority immediately after being hired and secured the five-star's commitment just three weeks into the job. A shocking blowout loss at unranked Purdue on October 20 pushed Ohio State to the fringe of the national championship chase and prompted all sorts of questions about Meyer's future.
"He is still committed until we meet (with the OSU staff) and find out more about the situation", said Fred Battle, father of the OSU defensive back pledge. "His strengths really come in the classroom and to be able to teach you and understand the game plan of what you want to accomplish and why you want to get that accomplished so you're successful".
A report issued by an investigative committee left a lasting stain, detailing behavior by Meyer that could have taken down a coach of lesser stature.
A big part of being a college coach is recruiting, and Day has shown he is willing to go far and wide to find prospects.
Operating under the belief that Meyer will return to coaching in the next two years, these are some of the colleges that could potentially be fits for Meyer to get back in the game.
Comey asks court to quash House subpoena
Comey was first asked to appear before the joint committee voluntarily but declined, resulting in the subpoena. A federal judge on Friday delayed a decision on whether to block U.S.
Meyer insisted he was going to coach beyond 2018 but more recently he had been noncommittal on his coaching future.
Meyer's contract is one of the best in college football.
"He explained to me privately that he has the health issues and that's the total reason that he's stepping away", Brown said, "but it's time for him to do that, and time to move forward".
Ohio State's inquiry revealed that Meyer had known about domestic abuse allegations against Smith since at least 2015, when police investigated the case - and when, according to Courtney Smith, she told Meyer's wife about it. He's an Ohio State guy.
Meyer said he knew about the accusations against Smith - grandson of former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce - but wasn't sure they were true and kept Smith on staff because no criminal charges were filed. He's a second-year Ohio State assistant who had never before been a head coach. Since then, he's coached at Utah (2003-04), Florida (2005-10), and Ohio State (2011-18). Meyer was given a three-game suspension for his role in the controversy. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed. In April, the university extended it to 2022, upped his salary to $7.6 million with a built-in annual raise of 6%, AP notes.
