A nationwide outage involving an internet company affected 911 cell phone calls in MA early Friday morning, according to State Police.
Federal Communications Chairman Ajit Pai said Friday that the agency will be investigating the outage.
The company first acknowledged the problem on Thursday morning.

Callers received a fast busy signal during the outage. The Louisiana-based company said Thursday night that it expected service to be restored in four hours, but the job took until about 8 p.m. Friday to complete.
"When an emergency strikes, it's critical that Americans are able to use 911 to reach those who can help", Pai said in a press release.
In Greeley, Colorado, the Weld County Regional Communication Center on December 28 said 911 calls were being dropped, but callers should keep trying and emergency dispatchers would try to call back.
The company pledged to fix the issue by 1 a.m. PT on Friday but issues persisted throughout the morning.
The 911 dispatch center and emergency management in western Missouri's Johnson County were hit by the outage, county Emergency Management Director Troy Armstrong said on December 28.
Local police and county sheriff's departments have been answering distressed users on social media for the past few hours, giving out direct phone numbers to their local dispatchers. It provided no other details, including how many customers were affected.
