With plenty of sunlight and no drama, Phil Mickelson finished off a 7-under 65 to win the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Monday (Tuesday NZT) and match the tournament record with his fifth victory.
Instead of the men and women vying for separate titles, as they now do, they could simply play off different tees and compete against each other.
"It's iconic, it's awesome, and I can scarcely believe I am part of the deal around here and I am looking forward to getting back here as quasi-defending champion". Cold, wet weather that produced a hailstorm forcing a two-plus hour delay derailed his momentum. A terrible tee-shot was followed by a chip that failed to find the green and a third that wasn't much better and after a fast start, which had seen him birdie the first two holes and three of the first five, and following a run of 11 straight pars, the 38-year-old Aussie missed his bogey attempt and tapped in for a double-bogey five.
Beginning the day three strokes off the pace, Mickelson matched Casey's birdie at the par-five second and holed a 10-footer at the fourth to cut the lead to two. "This is a special place for me".
Mickelson's first Pebble Beach title back in 1998 came when the weather was so bad that the final round was actually played on a Monday in August - six months after the tournament began. In 2018, Ted Potter, Jr. prevailed over Phil Mickelson, Jason Day and two-time Pebble Beach victor Dustin Johnson. Play was suspended on Sunday due to weather and darkness.
Terrell Davis Is A Big Fan Of The Joe Flacco Trade
Without needing to use a first-round pick on a quarterback, the Broncos will likely address one of their other positions of need. According to Over The Cap , Flacco has a cap number of $26.5 million this year, $28.25 next year and $24.25 in 2021.
'I don't want to be too emotional because I don't want to rub him the wrong way. "Over the moon, we got the win", Casey said.
Typically one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, Day ranked 39th on the greens this week.
Five-time major champion Mickelson will try to complete a career Grand Slam at Pebble Beach in June at the US Open, an event where he has finished second a record six times, most recently in 2013.
Mickelson has come close, with six runner-up finishes at the U.S. Open. "In all honesty, it's a good thing to play the last two holes in fresh conditions". He's most certainly drinking in the last chance saloon but as he's shown this week, you write Lefty off at your peril.
They both parred the 17th and then birdied the par-five 18th, Mickelson sealing the win by rolling in a six-foot putt as former local mayor and actor Clint Eastwood looked on from the television tower. I'll be back tomorrow with the previews.
