And Solskjaer, who famously scored the injury-time victor in the 1999 Champions League final, felt there was an element of nostalgia to United's triumph.
Speaking ahead of the Red Devil's game against Southampton, the 46-year-old said it would be "strange" if he were not in charge at Old Trafford next season after he was involved in a promotional campaign to sell next season's tickets.
"Mainly the first-half but also in the second-half we showed that we were very, very focused on our match plan and we wanted to get something here. I've been part of that so many times myself", the caretaker boss said.
United are now fifth in the table with 55 points from 28 matches but Solskjaer said they were planning for Champions League soccer next season.
"In the current squad, because of the way they try to organise, they communicate with team-mates, I think we only have two who are quite good at that, ' he told Sport Witness. But if it's me as a supporter or manager they should still buy their season tickets because the club is going somewhere".
"We need to have him more in front of the goal".

Spurs take on Chelsea tomorrow, host Arsenal on Saturday and then face Southampton the following weekend. Asked if he was concerned about Tottenham's place in the top four, Pochettino said: "I am not afraid".

The race for the top-four is really hotting up and United went into their home clash against Southampton knowing a win would put them back up to fourth and just three points behind Spurs.
The 20-year-old, who joined the club in 2015 from Stade Rennais, let rip from 25 yards, beating David de Gea at his near post to score one of the goals of the day.
Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial all missed the win over Southampton while Pogba is already ruled out against PSG because of suspension.
