It's unclear just how widespread these issues are and if Anthem is the direct cause of all problems being talked about. Over 30 people on the Anthem subreddit confirm the game is actually crashing their systems and forcing hardware to turn off at various points in the game.
EA is somewhat infamous for rough online game launches, but there's a significant divide between the bugs players ran into when Battlefield 4 launched and hard crashes that could potentially harm or even destroy a PlayStation 4, as appears to be the case with Anthem. Less they risk the chance of bricking their console.
"Twice now when trying to matchmake my PS4 has completely turned off", explained one poster on Reddit, "Happened to me as well", adds another.
Fortunately, one player has seem to have gotten to the bottom of the issue, and may have found a fix.
Anthem is causing some consoles to crash – here's what to do if it happens to you
Since its February 22 release date and a Day One version 1.03 patch, Anthem has still experienced waves of bug reports, including reports from multiple players that an Anthem bug is completely crashing their PS4. As such, it seems that some players have been attempting to get refunds on their purchases.
Currently, PS4 representatives are not looking for any specific reports or rationale behind a requested Anthem refund. Oh boy they keep coming for Anthem don't they. The PS4 version of the game now has a score of 57/100 on Metacritic, but it has been even more mercilessly judged by users, who have scored it at 4.2/10. "The console powers down and will not power on using the normal method of pressing the PS4 button on the controller", wrote one player.
They said they really like the game despite all the issues and just wanted to warn other players about the potential danger to their consoles. "We're investigating and ask that you share your crash data reports when prompted".
"Then once the OS loads it displays a system error reporting page to send the error to Sony".
